Crann Projects

Our projects have far-reaching benefits. They improve the environment for those who live nearby. They protect our natural heritage. They have a huge impact on the schoolchildren involved. And school visits reap dividends for years to come as the children grow and become the community leaders of the future.

Here’s what we do…

Brown Thomas Arnotts Afforestation Initiative

Crann has partnered with Brown Thomas Arnotts for their Afforestation Initiative to plant 100,000 trees in 10 years and introducing a charge for paper carrier bags to reduce paper usage. This initiative reinforces the retailer’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the importance of afforestation in Ireland.

Crann Photographic Competition 2024

Our annual photographic competition, sponsored by Coillte,
attracted another record entry last year.

Standards were very high and we look forward to receiving equally good images for this year’s contest.

We are planting one million trees with Ireland’s one million schoolchildren across the island of Ireland by 2023 – to reach the Plant-for-the-Planet challenge.

Our aim is for every child in Ireland to plant a tree and to sponsor one in the Global South. A million trees by December 2023. Easy Treesie! You can support us by joining us on a tree planting day. You can also donate trees to our project.

Giant’s Grove

The largest grove of Giant Redwoods outside of California.

Creating a living, enduring and inspiring tribute to Ireland’s diaspora beside the gardens of Birr Castle.

School’s Programme

On behalf of Crann – Trees for Ireland, Dale Treadwell, ecologist, who has appeared many times on children’s TV, carried out numerous school projects for us over the years. He has passed the baton on to James Lowry, a primary school teacher, who also has the ability to relate to children and get them genuinely interested in wildlife and the benefits trees bestow on us all.

Hedgerow Project

Railing awareness of the value of hedgerows to farmers, to the landscape, for nature conservation and as a repository for many of the country’s broadleaf trees.

Ballymun Regeneration Project

Creating a sense of ownership of a tree-planting project with the entire community of Ballymun.

The trees will support wildlife, supply cleaner air and improve the environment for everyone.

Tidy Towns Assist Programme

This programme is to encourage community engagement, hold advice clinics and support for committees nationwide promoting tree planting.
